Desert rain

The last time we had any significant rain was a month back - but then it made up for lost time and the desert became a lake - or rather, several of them, and it doesn't seem to go away. The farmers and their ploughs have had to move out and the waterfowl have moved in, big time - a spoonbill in the upper picture and a sacred ibis in the lower - and with them were dabchicks, Egyptian geese, spurwing geese, glossy ibis, herons, darters, blacksmith plovers - you name it. The ostriches have taken to the high ground.

One wouldn't think of it as a desert but I know what you mean. Both photographs convey fantastically the atmosphere and feel of space. And the birds... just like the cherry on top.
Beautiful! Cheers Shelagh!
