Up a gumtree?

The only tree tough enough to survive in the drier parts of South Africa is the gum tree, or eucalyptus, imported a long time ago from an equally dry Australia. The tough trees gave shade where nothing else survived, grew to be very tall and very old, occasionally shedding a branch or two - something that can be a trifle uncomfortable when your house happens to be right next to it. The house was there first, but the gum tree doesn't care...

Beautiful tree, but not so great in California. They grow like weeds and are a fire hazard. Everything has its place and perspective......

Amazingly large and strong looking tree. I don't think it will be going anywhere soon. DS Williamson

Resilient as it is, branch(es) sometimes give way to its weight. Gum trees are part of the landscape in our communities and city streets.
