The lavender-coloured and papery statice is everywhere, as are many plants with chrome yellow flowers - and now the midges and horseflies are less evident - their season is over for this year (thank goodness!)
It is a relief to be able to sit outside in the evening with a glass of wine and not be bitten - and not having the midges trying to share your drink, either.
