Older and wiser

Now here's a respectable building of the late 19thC. Walls protected from the sun, comfortable, enduring and good-looking. No air-conditioners needed. Where did the architects go wrong only 40 years later?

If we had stayed with this technology we might not have an energy crisis now.

This style reminds me of Australia but I don't know who gets credit for the style originally.
