On business, I met with another local architect at a roadside coffee-shop midway between towns, when I spotted these shoes on display, and admired their sturdy design. He smiled, and said "My grandfather made them, they were the most comfortable I ever had, but I walked right through the soles and when they couldn't be repaired any more I donated them to this coffee-shop's mini-museum." Turned out that this was the farm where his grandfather had lived, and it was still owned by family members. Our traditional "velskoene" (hide shoes) are still made locally, and are still just as comfortable as these look.
