The last of the Wet

A convocation of Blacksmith Plovers is attracted to the repaired road where it had been swamped by rising water from the "lake" on either side, and partly washed away. Usually we only see these birds one at a time, wading in shallow water, but this mob is just hanging around and only reluctantly gives way to the car...
...while a family of dabchicks (Little Grebes) enjoys the lake on one side of the road...

...and the view of Aurora beyond the lake on the other side (the whole village is contained in this shot) is shamelessly deceptive, climatically speaking.
